According to an old legend a Native American woman found a wolf pup while out collecting wood for her tribe. The animal was alone, starving and close to death. She carried the wolf cub back to her camp where she fed him and kept him warm in her tepee. He grew quickly and they became inseparable friends. One morning they went to the river to drink, and in the soft mud the woman saw their tracks from the previous evening – human and wolf footprints turning into two sets of wolf tracks. Confused by what she saw, the woman sought advice from the old chief who told her that as recompense for the tiny life she had saved, the wolf had given her the gift of existing in two forms: human and wolf. That evening she sat by the water with her wolf companion and looked at the reflection, and a female wolf looked back.

There was a time when human and wolf shared the earth in harmony. In many cultures, the deep bond between men and wolf is said to be forged in the stars; in Western astronomy, for example, Orion the Hunter and Canis Major (the Big Dog) walk close together in the sky. The wolf-human bond has been carried through tens of thousands of years on the earth through an association that ensured survival, growth and a prosperous co-evolution. However, at some point humans forgot their pristine origin and synergistic relationship with the wolf.
But the wolf never forgot and each night howls to the night sky beckoning the human to remember…
